The BC 1106 with its diversity of functions is (not really) the right choice for the athletically ambitious cyclist. While the idea of going wireless is a great concept, the computer requires 3 batteries. One each for the transmitter, receiver and computer. At any time these batteries will die causing the rider to have to investigate which is the culprit. There is a button on each of the components which can be pressed to indicate if the battery is good or bad (a green light will indicate a good battery). As well, the transmitter does not have a wire attaching it to the bike or computer so should the rubber band fail, the transmitter could be lost. Finally, through vigorous testing in race and training environments, the signal from transmitter to receiver can be easily corrupted, either by water or misplacement of the transmitter, etc. We feel that a better computer can be had in the “wired” version of this computer, Sigma 1606L.
Some good feature of this computer however, are the integrated storage chip which prevents loss of pre-settings and total values during power losses or battery changes, with low power scenarios announced in due time by the low battery indicator. Two wheel size settings are possible, which can be recognized automatically with an optional Bike 2 Sensor, allowing riders to use their BC 1106 interchangeably between any combination of two bicycles.

Ride farther, faster, and smarter with the Cat Eye® V3 wireless cycling computer. The 2.4GHz digital data transmission virtually eliminates interference and cross-talk, while the large screen simultaneously displays speed, cadence, heart rate and time information. The sensor unit combines the speed and cadence sensors into one piece that adjusts to most bikes. The FlexTight™ bracket fits almost all stems and handlebars without tools.

The CatEye CC-TR300TW Triple Wireless Cadence and Heart Rate bicycle computer provides three windows displaying four readouts. Like all CatEye bicycle computers, this one is ultrasonically welded and water-resistant.

Get out and ride with the CatEye Strada Double Wireless cycling computer. Designed to have you up and rolling in no time at all, the Strada is equipped with an easy-to-program ClickTec touch-screen interface. Simply press the screen in the appropriate spot and the screen will act as the button itself, thereby maximizing display space and creating a sleek appearance. More significantly, the computer includes an innovative ISCTec sensor that helps you measure your cadence, current speed, maximum speed, and average speed all in a single package. Need to gauge your training progress or determine your trip distance? Simply turn on the Strada, which also measures your elapsed time. And thanks to the universal tool-free FlexTight bracket, the Strada mounts on any size handlebar or stem.

Vetta RT288 Wireless Cycling Computer

Overall Rating: ★★★☆☆

Track and record your speed, as well as your cumulative and trip mileage. Wireless technology allows you to use this system without having to wrap, tuck or zip-tie wires. The handlebar mounted* (does not rotate to mount on the stem) computer helps you track your speed and mileage with multiple functions including speed comparator and current, average, and maximum speeds, as well as cumulative and trip odometers.

* For a computer that will rotate to allow mounting in multiple locations,
 review the Sigma 1606.

With a large LCD display with three screens, the computer is easy to use and read. The computer also helps you keep track of important bicycle maintenance schedules with the service reminder function. We feel this is a nice touch but do we really need a service light on our bicycle. The only shortcoming of this feature is that it doesn’t take into account the terrain being ridden or the abuse put upon the bike during each ride. So, a wet winter ride will require a servicing every 4 hrs of riding while a stroll in Palm Springs in April may require a servicing every 20 hrs.  An energy efficient programmable auto start feature helps to prolong battery life of the computer and EZ tire setup with wheel circumference setup make it very simple to do the intial setup.

Features include speed comparator, current speed, average/maximum speed, ride time, cumulative odometer, trip distance reader, 11 multi-freeze frame memories, 10 laps, a 12/24-hour clock, and energy efficient programmable auto start. The computer is water resistant and can be used in varying weather conditions. The computer has a replaceable cover, and an extra clear front cover is also included. Imagine that you’re back in the 80’s with a Swatch Watch. :)

Features:

  • Large LCD display with 3 screens
  • Auto awake and start-up
  • Cumulative odometer
  • Trip distance
  • Heavy Duty, Metal Braided Cable
  • Speed comparator
  • Current speed
  • Average/maximum speed
  • Total Ride Time
  • 11 Multi Freeze Frame Memories
  • 10 Lap memory
  • 12/24-hour clock
  • Service timer
  • EZ tire setup with wheel circumference setup included
  • Extra clear front cover included
